Dubai International Marine Club hosted the first RC 44 Match Race in 2006 with Russell Coutts on Team Omega and Jes Gram-Hansen on Mascalzone Latino. The race was held during the Dubai Boat Show to demonstrate the boat. In 2007 Dubai International Marine Club hosted the final round of the RC44 Championship Tour, the Dubai RC44 Gold Cup. DIMC bought the Sea Dubai RC44 boat on January 1st 2008 and 'splashed' it on the last day of the Maktoum Sailing Trophy in the same year. The boat joined the RC 44 Championship Tour at the Dubai RC44 Cup at DIMC for the first round of the 2008 tour and went on to finish 6th overall after competing in 5 of the 6 regattas. This season the boat joined the tour in Italy for the Cagliari RC44 Cup and is standing in 8th place.
The RC44 Boat The RC44 is a light displacement high performance one-design sailing boat designed by Russell Coutts, 3 times winner of the Americas Cup, and Andrej Justin, a naval architect in 2006. The RC44 was created for top level racing in international regattas under strictly controlled Class Rules. The concept and the design features of the RC44 are dedicated to the amateur helmsmen racing in fleet racing sailing events.
